Long time no blog...

Well, ok...so I have gotten off the blog bandwagon for a while...been too busy on Facebook! (Man! that is addicting!)

As I am sitting here tonight, I am contemplating a good Internet/home based business. Anyone with any ideas? I would love to start my own party planning business, but with the economy the way it is right now, probably not a good idea.

It has been a busy time since I wrote last...we have been to Disney World and back...spent a weekend in Colorado Springs...and school is just around the corner.

Ally starts Kindergarten on August 24th...it will be here before I know it! Also, she is ready to lose her 1st tooth! It seems like just yesterday we were waiting for those suckers to come in! LOL!

Tyler is a ball full of boy energy...he can never sit still. I am a little worried that he will have a rough year this year with sister being in "big kid" school and him still in daycare. They have NEVER been apart when it comes to school. They have always been there together, so it will be interesting to see what this does for both of them. I am hoping it gives Tyler some more independence and Ally some self confidence to get away from some of her shyness.

Well, I hope this finds all of you well and again, if you have any good ideas...let me know! :)

Citizen's Academy part II

Ok, so if I didn't get my respect for just how much damage a gun can do, I think I have it for sure now...last night we had our section on Crime Scene Investigation...They showed us pictures of actual crime scenes...One was a murder/suicide...the husband's (shooter) head was practically gone...just a concave section of where his head used to be...Lesson Learned: Never play with firearms unless you know how to use them!

On a positive note: Tyler's birthday is about a month away and I can't beleive how fast time goes. He is going to be 4 and it seems like just yesterday he was born! He is now into SpiderMan...no more baby stuff...we on onto big boy toys now! So, we are going to have a SpiderMan birthday party...It has been hard to get into all the boy stuff. I am such a girly girl...Ally's parties are easy...all pink and princess. Tyler I have to bring out the inner tomboy that doesn't seem to exist...:(

Well, a bad storm sounds like it is blowing in and really windy...time to sign off.

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY to all my favorite Moms out there!

Police Academy

Last month I started the Citizen's Police Academy for the Greeley PD to learn more all the different departments. I also thought it would help me understand what I can to do help meet the needs of the department. Well, last week was the BEST WEEK EVER!

The first couple of weeks we learned about the traffic unit, gang unit, etc. Last week we went out to the firing range...

Now, I grew up in a house were we never had guns, never hunted, never ever talked about guns. I actually have a huge fear of guns (which I had to get over right away when everyone I work with has at least one on them).

So, last week I got to shoot my first gun! Actually 3 to be exact...What a RUSH! First was the shotgun. I was really surprised that the kickback was not as bad as I had always heard. Surprisingly, my aim was pretty good...if the target had a stomach...it doesn't anymore.

Next was an AR-15 rifle. This one had a little more kick than I expected, but still COOL!

Last was the Glock 22. It was pretty cool. Now, I am not going to run out and buy a gun, but I have to tell you...it was one of the most liberating experiences I have ever had. I finally feel like my fear is gone and my respect for what they can do has greatly increased.

Well, I know that the instructors took some pictures, so as soon as I have some, I will post.

Happy Friday!

The New Baby

Saturday my neice, Ashlynn Vanderzyden, was born to Scott's brother and sister-in-law who live in Highlands Ranch, CO (about an hour south of where we live). We were all so excited for the new addition to the Vanderzyden Clan. :)

So, we decided we needed to go visit the new baby cousin for Ally and Tyler. The kids were so excited that they had a new cousin. On our way to the hospital, we stopped at Target to pick up a few gifts for the new baby. Ally came inside with me while the boys waited in the car. As we were heading to the card and gift wrap aisle, I told Ally that we needed to get a congratulations card for Aunt Nilda and Uncle John. Ally said "No, mommy. We need to get a birthday card for the new baby. It is her Birthday!". So we got a cute birthday card perfect for the new cousin.

When we got to the hospital, we told the kids that they could not touch the baby and had to hold thier hands behind thier backs. They were so excited, they held thier hands behind thier backs, but got thier noses as close to the bassinet as humanly possible. :)

We are all just so excited for anyother Vanderzyden in the family!

My little girl is growing up...

How can five years pass by right before your eyes? It is amazing how life really does fly by. Tonight I went the kindergarten parent meeting for Allyson...my little girl is going to kindergarten in the fall...how is that possible? Yesterday she was in diapers and sitting in the bouncy chair with a toothless grin...today, she is writing her name and telling me how to spell mom and dad. I am amazed at how fast they change right before your eyes.

My first blog

Ok, so the only time I have ever blogged is when my dad was going through his cancer battle and I was keeping friends and family updated...I guess we'll see how this goes...
